The Bloodstock & Stud Investment Company Limited was incorporated in 1960 and has been insuring bloodstock throughout the world for leading Studs and Racehorse Owners since that time. Its most important attributes are the Company’s competitiveness in an ever-changing market and its ability to provide a personal service to clients both large and small.

The offices have been based in Marlborough, Wiltshire since 1992 but for the first 25 years of the Company’s existence, it operated from Knightsbridge in London.

Buildings Insurance

In conjunction with Lloyds Underwriters the Company is able to provide an extremely competitively priced facility for comprehensive perils cover on buildings, contents and associated risks which may be required by any Trainer, Stud Owner or Racehorse Owner (for example tack, stable equipment, personal accident for employees, etc).

Employer’s Liability Insurance is a requirement by law. The indemnity provided is £10,000,000 and the premium is based on the number of employees in the yard/stud. Normally the premium is £200 per employee. The premium is not based on wage turnover.

Public Liability Insurance.  In this case we are not referring to the Public Liability arising from the buildings but the liability arising from having horses in the Trainer/Owner’s Care, Custody or Control. The premium is based on the number of horses and the indemnities available are between £1,000,000 and £5,000,000. There is £1,000 Third Party Property Damageand Bodily Injury Excess each and every claim.

Care, Custody and Control/Legal Liability Insurance. This policy protects a Stud Owner or Trainer if they are held to be legally liable by an owner because the loss, permanent or temporary injury to a horse is deemed to be due to their negligence. Once again the premium is based on the number of animals in the Assured’s care.

This policy can be extended to include " Breach of Professional Duty" insurance which protects the Stud Owner or Trainer for any error or omission in their conduct. This is a much wider coverage which carries a significant excess of £5,000 but effectively is the equivalent to a commercial professional indemnity policy.

VAT Recovery

The Company also provides a VAT Recovery facility for owners of racehorses in training in the UK.   Sponsorship can be provided in certain circumstances in connection with this facility.
